Now a Doula, Always a Mama
Madison’s personal experiences have deeply informed her work as a doula. She brings empathy, insight, and strength to the women she serves. Her story is proof that birth can be a source of healing, and that one hard experience doesn’t define the rest of your journey.

Healing Through Birth: Madison Huntley on Her Journey from Trauma to Joy
Birth isn’t always what we expect. Sometimes, it leaves us with more questions than answers, more fear than peace, and a lingering sense that something should have gone differently. But what if birth could also be the path to healing? What if, through the right support and preparation, we could reclaim our power, find peace, and even joy?
In this week’s episode of the Bare Birth Podcast, I sit down with Madison Huntley, a doula and mother of three, who opens up about her journey through three very different births. From her difficult first birth in the hospital to a redemptive home birth experience and a joyful third, Madison shares how her experiences have shaped her as a woman, a mother, and a birth worker.
From Fear to Strength: Madison’s First Birth
Madison’s journey into motherhood began with uncertainty and fear. Her first birth, a hospital delivery, was difficult on many levels—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She lacked the support and education she now knows is vital for a positive birth experience.
Finding Healing at Home
After experiencing a difficult miscarriage, DNC, and fertility issues ultimately stemming from complications from the DNC When Madison became pregnant again, she knew she wanted a different experience. After learning more about natural birth, hiring a midwife, and immersing herself in supportive education, she chose to have a home birth.
This decision changed everything. Her second birth was empowering and redemptive. Surrounded by people who trusted her body and her process, Madison felt supported, safe, and seen.
The Joy of Her Third Birth
By the time she welcomed her third baby, Madison had fully stepped into her power as a mother. Her third birth was filled with peace and joy—a beautiful contrast to the fear and confusion of her first experience. It was a full-circle moment—one where all the lessons, healing, and support came together to create a birth that was not only beautiful but deeply transformative.
Why Support and Education Matter
Throughout our conversation, Madison emphasizes how crucial it is to have the right support team. Whether it’s a midwife, doula, or informed partner, being surrounded by people who believe in your ability to birth makes all the difference.
She also stresses the importance of education. Knowing your options, understanding the physiology of birth, and preparing emotionally and spiritually is key. Madison encourages every mama to lean into her intuition, do the research, and build a team that honors her values.
